Alex Nuñez

Alex Nuñez is a mixed media artist who combines intricate abstract mark making with pop culture imagery to create immersive environments. Her work is rooted in the tension between delicate line work and a spontaneous staining method of dense pools of acrylic paint combined with glitter and confetti. Nuñez received her Bachelors of Arts & Sciences from Loyola University of New Orleans in 2006. After graduating, she completed international immersive workshops at Firenze Arti Visive, Florence and Metafora, Barcelona. In 2009, she received a Post Baccalaureate Diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where her work began to take shape on a massive scale while experimenting with installations and large-scale paintings. Nuñez recently completed her MFA at Hunter College in Fall 2012. She received the C12 Emerging Artist Fellowship Award, and along with Nobutaki Aozaki, exhibited her first solo show at Marianne Boesky Gallery (New York). She recently took part of Here is Where We Jump, the 7th edition of El Museo del Barrio’s Biennial (New York), currently on view. http://www.elmuseo.org/

Originally from Miami, Florida and of Cuban descent, Nuñez currently lives in NewYork City.
